Collage Touchstones

 Collage Touchstones

Gentle collage‑based art therapy for memory, grounding, and personal meaning

Collage Touchstones is a reflective, sensory‑aware art therapy program designed to support older adults in exploring memory, identity, and emotional safety through simple, layered collage processes. Using curated images, textures, colours, and tactile materials, residents create small “touchstones” — visual anchors that evoke comfort, connection, and personal meaning.

This program is ideal for residents living with dementia, cognitive changes, anxiety, or those who benefit from structured, low‑pressure creative engagement.

Why Collage Works in Aged Care

Collage is accessible, forgiving, and deeply expressive. It allows residents to make choices, follow intuition, and build meaning without needing fine motor precision or advanced skills. The process is grounding, sensory‑rich, and supportive of reminiscence and emotional regulation.

Freedom of choice and personal expression

They can be kept in residents’ rooms, displayed in communal areas, or used as conversation starters with staff and family.

Why Touchstones?

Touchstones are small, manageable, and deeply personal. They offer:

  • a sense of completion

  • a tangible reminder of comfort or identity

  • a grounding object for residents experiencing anxiety or confusion

  • a meaningful way to express selfhood in environments that can feel clinical

They are especially supportive for residents with dementia, as they provide visual cues that evoke familiarity and emotional safety.
