Shavarnia is an abstract painter whose work is shaped by a lifelong connection to landscape. Born in Aotearoa/New Zealand and living in Australia for the past forty years, she draws from the dramatic coastlines of her childhood and the rich, atmospheric environments of Bundjalung Country, where she now lives and works. Her practice is informed by an ever‑deepening awareness of Indigenous culture, story, and Dreaming — not as something to represent, but as a way of listening more closely to land, presence, and place.
Working in mixed media, she creates fluid, gestural, layered abstractions that explore the relationship between outer landscape and inner terrain. Her paintings reflect the emotional and sensory impressions of place, tracing the subtle interplay between memory, belonging, and the environments that shape us.
Her work has evolved through decades of experimentation, intuitive practice, and a commitment to exploring colour, movement, and the quiet stories held within land.
