Art Therapy Profile

Art Therapist Profile

As an art therapist, my passion lies in harnessing the transformative power of creative expression to support and empower children facing unique challenges. My specialization includes working with children exhibiting behavioural issues, and neurodiverse learners. I am committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where each child can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences through the art practice.

Therapeutic Approach

I employ a person-centred approach, recognizing that each child is unique and requires individualized care. By incorporating various art forms such as painting, drawing, sculpting, and collage-making, I provide children with multiple avenues for self-expression and communication. This versatile approach allows me to adapt to the specific needs and preferences of each child, facilitating a deeper connection and more effective therapeutic outcomes.

Working with Children on the Autism Spectrum

Children on the autism spectrum often face challenges in communication, social interaction, and sensory processing. My art therapy sessions are designed to address these challenges by offering a non-verbal means of expression and fostering social skills in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Through structured and unstructured art activities, I help children build confidence, enhance their social interactions, and develop coping mechanisms for sensory sensitivities.

Addressing Behavioural Issues

For children with behavioural issues, art therapy provides a constructive outlet for their emotions and frustrations. By engaging in creative activities, children can process their feelings and develop healthier ways to manage their behaviours. My therapeutic techniques include guided imagery, role-playing, and storytelling through art, which empower children to understand and regulate their emotions better.

Supporting Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity encompasses a wide range of conditions, including ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences. My approach to art therapy focuses on leveraging a child’s strengths and provide tailored support to address their unique challenges. By creating a flexible and accommodating environment, I help them to build self-esteem, improve their focus, and develop problem-solving skills.

Professional Experience and Training

I hold a degree in Art Therapy and have received extensive training in working with children with special needs through my work as a Learning Support Officer, art teacher and mentor within the education sector. My professional journey has been enriched by collaborations with schools, families and children from very diverse populations

A Safe and Inclusive Space

Above all, I am committed to fostering an inclusive and accepting environment where all children feel valued and understood and heard. My therapy sessions are designed to honour each child's individual journey, encouraging them to explore their creativity and find their own voice. Through the therapeutic power of art, I strive to make a positive difference in the lives of the children I work with, helping them to navigate their challenges and celebrate their successes.
